EPISODE 21 OF MY EXTREME HOLIDAYS PODCAST OUT NOW: BUDDHISM, A BUS CRASH AND THE DALAI LAMA!

CAN FAITH GIVE YOU PERSPECTIVE EVEN IN THE MOST EXTREME TRAVEL SITUATIONS?

More than anything it was the fact that my life in New Jersey, for me, was survival mode. So I wasn’t really thinking about following a passion, doing something that felt fun, doing something that freeing. I was predominantly making my choices from the fear of ‘I better have enough money so I don’t starve’. And I started thinking about – holy crow! – I’m living my life based on these intense feelings based on fear and scarcity and poverty, so when I thought about being abroad it was like a game changer because not only was I free of that matrix of fear, I was building my business.

It made me realise that I want to make a difference in people’s lives….The mere fact that I have a country that recognises me as a citizen and refugees like the Karen, and refugees now, they don’t have that privilege.

Contrary to myth, I have come across many more solo women travelers than men. Generally, I find men travel with friends or their partners.

It was a pleasure (and such fun!) speaking to HelpYouFind.Me about my greatest love: travel! You can learn about the benefits and challenges of solo travel, the safest places to visit, as well what inspired me to set up my Extreme Holidays Podcast and how I got the show on the road!
You can read the article here: Travel Author Ruth Millington tells all: Safe solo female travel destinations, why you should travel solo, tips, and mistakes to avoid while traveling.

My dear friend, Bibek Pandey, who is a sherpa/mountain guide in Nepal, recently sent me some amazing photos he has taken from Labuche Peak high camp at night. It was simply stunning with the huge moon, and the orange mountaineering tents with the magnificent Himalayan Peaks silhouetted in the background partially covered in mist.
It got me thinking about some of my most favourite photos I’ve taken in Nepal which I wanted to share with you.
I’m taking a break from the Extreme Holidays Podcast over Easter to recover from Covid and recharge my batteries. There are over 15 episodes published ranging from Catching a Deadly Disease in Paradise, to Cycling the World, to extreme adventures, to solving mysteries, to surviving earthquakes and disasters at sea, to the most recent episode – Expat in Exile: I Told The Truth About Thailand’s Backpacker Murders with Suzanne Buchanan which has been a big hit for those interested in this international news story.
Thank you to all my guests so far! You can check them all out below.
The podcast is returning soon with an epic cycle adventure from Pakistan to Mount Kailash, Tibet with Graydon Hazenberg, a man who has seen the world many times over and is one of the most adventurous travellers I have met!

I was starting to feel really unsafe on the island. My partner moved out for a while to catch his breath. Being home alone was daunting. I was told the mafia had a list of people they were planning on dealing with, and my name was getting closer to the top.
