In 1984, the writer, Sandra Jensen, disillusioned with life, put on her backpack and went off to travel the world. Her first stop was Sri Lanka, but with little funds to support herself, she soon fell into the dark world of travel scams. In this insightful and moving account, Sandra discusses the widespread practices throughout Asia in the 1980s, the risks she took and whether she fell prey to the very person she trusted when offered the opportunity to make some money from selling rubies.

About my guest

Sandra has lived a nomadic life from the age of seven when her mother left South Africa and brought the family to Greece, where her father tragically died in a car accident. Moving from country to country became almost a habit, and she now has three passports, South African, British, and Canadian. Multi talented in many fields, she has taught Photoshop to refugee Tibetan monks and nuns, studied and travelled with spiritual teachers, and exhibited photographs of her travels in London and Toronto. In the 90s she contracted South African tick-bite fever which had a lasting impact on her health. In her mid 40s, her extensive travels being a major influence, she turned to writing.
