THANK YOU!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has sent me your stories for my EXTREME H OLIDAYS PODCAST. Wow! There are some cracking tales out there and I can’t wait to get recording! Keep sending me your stories. It can be anything from something that has happened to you on a day trip to a trip of a lifetime. Have you a love story or break up to tell, travelled with a disability, or anything which took you out of your comfort zone even for the slightest second? CHINA 2001: BUSES, BREASTS AND LǍOWÀI

What a difference twenty years makes.

I took this photograph whilst on a bus somewhere between Beijing and Xi’an in 2001. I can’t remember the exact place to be honest as I had been distracted that morning by a chicken sitting on my lap. It was well behaved despite being scrawny and eyeing up my dusty hair for a good pecking. Behind me, a woman retched onto the floor; a stream of phlegm meandered past my feet. The road was full of tight bends and the bus driver had a death wish to career as fast as he could around them. On the most severest, the passenger entrance door would fling open and a plume of dirt and dust would blast into the bus.

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT: NEPAL

I first set eyes on Nepal when I was a little girl. My father kept an atlas in my bedroom. It was a huge book, half my size. I would spend hours looking through the maps and data, struggling to turn the pages. And I didn’t understand much about what was written, but it fascinated me that so much jargon could be squashed into such tiny spaces on each page.

As a writer and a passionate adventure world traveller, I have been inundated over the years with requests to share my fascinating travel tales so I’ve decided to set up my own website and blog.
